ハンガリーに生まれ、モーツァルトの家に2年間住み込みピアノを学んだフンメル（1778-1837）。その後はハイドンの後継者、ベートーヴェンのライバルと目され、ピアニストとしても作曲家としても幅広く活躍した事で知られています。彼は多くの作品を書きましたが、当時流行していた「オペラの器楽曲への編曲」というジャンルにも積極的に手を染め、演奏家としても作曲家としても、その才能を強く印象付けています。とにかく原曲のオペラアリアや合唱曲を、ピアノ1台でどれだけ盛り上げられるかが勝負！技巧的な変奏曲や、聴きどころをつなぎ合わせるなど、あの手この手の仕掛けが施されています。NAXOSで数多くの室内楽や伴奏に携わっている乾まどか氏による強力な演奏でお楽しみください。
