When a member of a "boy band" like New Kids On The Block steps out on his own, he's risking not only comparisons to his past, but ridicule for having the gumption to declare himself an individual. McIntyre takes that gamble on STAY THE SAME, but fans of his work with NKOTB certainly shouldn't be alienated by the results. Though McIntyre's approach here is notably more mature, the big production and radio-ready mix of pop and contemporary R&B are close enough to McIntyre's past to allow him to bring his old admirers along while winning new ones.
