Liner Note Authors: Cliff White; Bob Fisher.
Charly's 1993 compilation Soul Mine has a great cover shot of Lee Dorsey pointing a pistol into the camera, no liner notes, and all the usual suspects: "Ya Ya," "Do-Re-Mi," "Great Googa Mooga," "Ride Your Pony," "Get out of My Life Woman," "Confusion," "Working in the Coal Mine," "Holy Cow," "My Old Car," and "Everything I Do Is Gonna Be Funky (From Now On)." It also has the relatively latter-day single "Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley," plus a couple of good rarities: "Love Lots of Lovin'," "Go Go Girl," "Give It Up," "Night People," "Soul Mine," "Freedom for the Stallion." The lesser-known songs are all good -- during his heyday, Dorsey was never bad -- but it's not necessarily enough to make this worth seeking out for anyone but completists. Still, the disc overall is good enough to satisfy the curious and the casual fan if they happen to find it at a good price. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
