British hard rock quartet Lower than Atlantis slows down (slightly) and gets both more emotional and more musically ambitious on its second album, World Record. Lead singer Mike Duce, reflecting on the life of a touring musician and the passage of time, sings in a distinct British accent over a band that stops and starts its rhythms to conform to his expressions. World Record is much more of a melodic hard rock album than its predecessor, Far Q, which was more interested in attack and speed, i.e., more of a punk rock album. The contrast can be sampled on this version of World Record, which packages Far Q as a second disc after adding three bonus tracks to the 12 making up World Record proper on Disc One, "Live by the Remote, Die by the Remote," "Beside Myself," and "Grounded." ~ William Ruhlmann
