Personnel: Jimmy Smith (organ); Kenny Burrell (guitar); Grady Tate (drums). Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on June 15 & 16, 1965. Originally released on Verve (8628). Using the monicker 'Incredible' was no flash banner, it was true. Smith defined the Hammond organ as a jazz instrument and milked and bled it to its limit. The sub-credit for guitarist Kenny Burrell and drummer Grady Tate is also well deserved. This is the ultimate groovy, smokey jazz trio record that Smith made. The title track has been used for countless radio trailers over the years, while the often covered Duke Ellington classic, 'Satin Doll', is given extra special effort. Burrell has worked with Smith more than any other musician. His mellow tone and Smith's treble notes blend like cucumber and salmon.

商品の紹介

Mojo (Publisher) (4/01, p.120) - "...On this '65 date Smith's classic sidemen...follwo every dynamic staband swell that the righteous, furious-fingered Hammondmeister can throw at them with the discipline and joy of true believers....inimitable and irresistible."
Rovi

Most of organist Jimmy Smith's recordings for Verve during the mid- to late '60s were with big bands, making this trio outing with guitarist Kenny Burrell and drummer Grady Tate a special treat. This outing is a throwback to Smith's Blue Note sets (which had concluded two years earlier) and gives the organist the opportunity to stretch out on three blues and three standards. This release shows that, even with all of his commercial success during the period, Smith was always a masterful jazz player. ~ Scott Yanow
