The PTG label of the Netherlands was kicking out Nighttime Lovers compilations at a rate so rapid that they evidently lost track of what tracks they had previously put back into circulation. Legacy's "Word Up," a number 71 R&B single released on Brunswick in 1982, appeared on the tenth volume, and here it is -- for whatever reason -- once more. The 13th volume is not among the best in the series, as there's not much reason to play most of the cuts more than once or twice. Among the standouts here, apart from "Word Up": Freda Payne's "In Motion" (arranged by Leon Sylvers III, produced by Edmund Sylvers), Michael Wycoff's "Still Got the Magic (Sweet Delight)" (produced by unsung keyboard wiz Webster Lewis), and the Jones Girls' "Keep It Comin'" (written and produced by Keni Burke). ~ Andy Kellman|
