n the tradition of across-the-waters collaborations like Thad Jones's recordings with the Danish Radio Big Band, pianist/composer Farnham brought a handful of American players to Berlin to record this album with one of Germany's oldest, most revered big bands, led by erstwhile Stan Kenton trombonist Jiggs Whigham. A standout on this recording is German harmonica virtuoso Hendrik Muerkens, who contributes fleet, stinging runs to the compositions. Amid swinging reworkings of classics like Jobim's "Triste" and Cannonball Adderly's "Work Song" there are a few Farnham compositions that easily hold their own among their esteemed company.|
