Smart Flesh ［LP+CD］

アメリカン・フォークの伝統の流れを汲む、インディー・ロック・カルテット、そしてマルチ・インストゥルメンタル集団“ザ・ロウ・アンセム”。ノンサッチから2009年にリリースされた移籍第1弾アルバム『Oh My God, Charlie Darwin』で一躍注目を集めた彼らが、第2弾アルバムのレコーディングに選んだのは、ロードアイランド州セントラル・フォールズにある、かつてパスタ・ソース工場として使われていた広大な建物。そこにポータブルのレコーディング・スタジオ機器を持ち込んだ彼らは、だだっ広い空間をフルに活用し“距離感”さえも音に反映させた音的実験を繰り返していた。その結果生まれたこのアルバムには、科学では説明の付かないヒッチハイカーに、飛行機、膨れ上がる腫瘍、唸りを上げる機械に、空虚なハイウェイ、マネキンなどをキーワードを用いた、愛や渇望、そして死を前にした人生の歪みをテーマにした曲が溢れている。また音的にも、ジューズハープ、ミュージカル・ソウ、スティロフォン、そしてバンド自らが修繕したアンティークのパンプ・オルガンや大きすぎるドラム・キットを用いた、いかにも調子と音色に魅了された彼ららしいサウンドに仕上がっている。本作は、アルバム本編が180グラム重量盤アナログに収録。さらにそれと同内容のCDも付属！
