カリフォルニアはバークレーに在ったインディペンデントなブラック・ミュージック専門レーベル、Music City Recordsにスポットを当てた3枚組ボックス・セット。1950年代初頭のスムース・ブルースから、リズム＆ブルース～ロックンロール、モダン・ソウル、ファンクと、時代を反映する多くの作品をリリースしてきた同レーベルからは、THE 4 DEUCES「W-P-L-J」等の幾つかのローカル・ヒットやLOU RAWLS、SUGAR PIE DESANTOの作品もリリースされており、当然それらもコンパイル！ソウルからブルース、ドゥーワップ等、幅広いジャンルの音楽ファンに訴求するヴィンテージな作品。
