2009年グラミー賞ベスト・ヒストリカル・アルバムを受賞！アート・ローゼンバウムが約50年もの歳月を費やしてレコーディングしたブルース、ゴスペル、カントリー等のアメリカのルーツミュージック集『Art of Field Recording, Volume I: Fifty Years of Traditional American Music』（4枚組ボックス）を1枚にまとめたベスト・セレクション。ハリー・スミス監修の名盤『アンソロジー・オブ・アメリカン・フォーク・ミュージック』などとも呼応する歴史的価値のあるアルバムです。本作を監修したアート・ローゼンバウムは、ジョージア在住のバンジョーの名プレイヤーにして、画家でありトラディショナル音楽の収集家にして研究者。1938年ニューヨーク出身。インディアナポリスで育ち、コロンビア大学で芸術を学ぶ。1964から1965年に奨学金でパリで学び、その後、ニューヨークやアイオワで教鞭をとる。1976年にジョージアに移り、以来、多くの時間をアメリカ南部のルーツ音楽、リアル・フォークを演奏、収集し、広めることに尽力をつくしてきた。それら膨大な貴重な楽曲を2008年に『Art of Field Recording, Volume I』として4枚組ボックスでリリース。100ページ以上にわたる解説も歴史的に評価されグラミー賞を受賞する。2009年には続編の『Art of Field Recording, Volume II』をリリース。本作は、それらをヨーロッパでリリースするため、1枚にまとめられたベスト・セレクション。
