It's packed with fine versions of tunes such as "So Beats My Heart for You," "Lonesome and Sorry," "June Night," and a sultry revamping of Wilson's own classic, "Blues in C Sharp," renamed "Blues in D Flat." Throughout his life, Wilson kept the jazz music of his youth alive, never really changing his style to accommodate newer trends in jazz. Here the members of his band similarly reflect older jazz traditions in their performances. Bob Wilber recalls Benny Goodman in his clarinet solos, and Harry "Sweets" Edison, one of the inventors of the swing trumpet style, stays true to his roots. The last track includes invaluable commentary from Wilber, who talks at length about this session and the musicians who play on it.
