ルーツの最新作にも客演していたジョン・レジェンドが、彼らの助力を得て作り上げたソウル･カヴァー集。取り上げられているのは（日本ではニュー・ソウルと括られているものを主とした）社会派のナンバーが中心で、コモンとメラニー・フィオナを加えた”Wake Up Everybody”(ハロルド・メルヴィン＆ザ・ブルー・ノーツ）など、意識の高いジョン＆ルーツらしい選曲が真摯な歌と演奏で紡ぎ上げられていく。カヴァー・アルバムというと一段低く見る向きもあるが、歌われるべき歌が歌われるべきタイミングで然るべき人たちによって歌われた本作の内容は、いつ書かれた歌かを知らずとも現代を生きるリスナーの胸にまっすぐに響くものだろう。ゆえに唯一のジョン書き下ろし曲となる”Shine”もまったく違和感がない。

バックバンドでザ・ルーツが参加したソウル･カヴァーアルバム。当時のアメリカの社会情勢や政治にメッセージを込めた内容と言える。注目は先行曲「Wake Up Everybody」だ、オリジナルはHarold Melvin & The Blue Notesが75年作品で、クエストラブのセンスなのか同郷フィリーの先人の楽曲を取り上げるあたり流石！客演するコモンの乾いたようなフロウの相性もgood！
