The follow-up to 2007's Oblivion with Bells, Barking is Underworld at their most diverse, thanks in no small part to the genre-spanning guest list. There's trance producer Paul van Dyk, avant dubstep team Appleblim, deep house man Dubfire, plus drum'n'bass juggernauts High Contrast, who are featured on the album's leadoff single, "Scribble."

モノトーンのアートワークから一転、TOMATO製のカラフルなジャケが物語る、キャリア上稀に見る量のアンセムを搭載した3年ぶりの新作。ダブファイアやアップルブリムら各界の旬を曲ごとに迎えたあたり、いまだにダレン不在の印象を強くさせられるが、そのコラボが吉と出たダンス・トラック上でカールも久々に歌いまくる。長らく音源化が熱望されていたハイ・コントラストとの楽曲や、聴き手を選ばぬマーク・ナイトやポール・ヴァン・ダイクとのプログレッシヴな歌モノにはやはり抗えない恍惚へと誘われるだろう。“Born Slippy”以来の記憶が更新されない人にも、革新的な足跡をずっと追ってきた人にも＜こんなアンダーワールドが聴きたかった！＞と思わせる、痛快なまでにその責任を果たしたビック・タイトルだ。
