ヘンデルの傑作「エジプトのイスラエル人」！
今や古楽界を代表する合唱団、ピエール・カオ率いるアルシス・ブルゴーニュと、古楽オーケストラの雄コンチェルト・ケルンが組んで、ヘンデルの傑作「エジプトのイスラエル人」を録音しました。「エジプトのイスラエル人」は、1739年に初演された壮大なオラトリオ。旧約聖書の「出エジプト記」に題材をとった劇的な内容にヘンデルの雄輝な音楽が生きています。ベルギー人カオは、ドイツ風のゴツゴツしたヘンデルでも、英国風のノーブルなヘンデルでもない、透明で柔らかく、必要とあらばビシッと力が入るヘンデルを生み出しています。合唱が大きく活躍する作品ですので、アルシス・ブルゴーニュの優秀なアンサンブルは見事で、またコンチェルト・ケルンも紅海横断の場面など、非常に熱の入った音楽でカオに応えています。歌手は、カウンターテノールのブレイズやバスのマクラウドのように日本でもおなじみの人たちに加え、ランカスター出身で今英国の古楽ソプラノの逸材として引っ張りだこのドイル、オーストラリア出身の若く優れたソプラノ、グリムソン、さらにガーディナーが重用する二人の歌手、英国のテノールのオクスリーとバスのハーヴェイと、優れた歌手を揃えています。録音の多い「エジプトのイスラエル人」のなかでも、卓越した演奏に仕上がっています。なお、再演時の2部の版を用いています。
