Personnel: Jimmy Edgar (vocals). Recording information: Detroit (2004-2010); New York City (2004-2010). On XXX, Jimmy Edgar refines his smutty neo-electro with increased use of analog equipment. This has a way of slightly rounding off the sharp edges of the producer's sound, placing him closer to the modern funk likes of Dam-Funk than glitch. Edgar's output does remain rather rigid, however, as on "Function of Your Love," which is somewhere between Reggie Calloway's glaring productions for Midnight Star and Egyptian Lover at his most stern. Those who are attracted to Edgar's stripped-down jitter will find a bit to like later in the sequence, while "In My Colour" is smooth and inviting enough to rival the most stimulating moments from the Other People Place's Lifestyles of the Laptop Cafe. Stay for the bonus track "Sleep Connexion," which might as well be considered an ambient, lovers' lane mix of Kleeer's "Intimate Connection." "Relatively tasteful" should not be considered a pejorative here. The gent's still a creep. ~ Andy Kellman
