Audio Mixers: Doug Boehm; Rob Schnapf. Recording information: Chemical Sound; Kingsize Soundlabs, Los Angeles, CA; Sunset Sound Factory, Los Angeles, CA. Photographer: Tom Jackson . Tokyo Police Club make adjustments to tempo, mood, and song length on this sophomore album, released two years after the group's Elephant Shell debut. The danceable indie rock that helped launch Tokyo Police Club's career hasn't been entirely abandoned, but it does take the back seat during this midtempo ride, which seems less interested in working up a sweat than exploring new directions. On songs like "Bambi," though, the guys kill two birds with one stone. Kinetic and tuneful, the song also experiments with electronic keyboard effects, allowing Tokyo Police Club to challenge themselves while still playing to their strengths. ~ Andrew Leahey

商品の紹介

Spin - "[W]ith some clever reshuffling of precise drum pecks, TV-hum synths, Strokes-like guitar, and David Monks' reedy, wry vocals." Alternative Press (p.130) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Tokyo Police Club retain their enthusiasm with CHAMP; they just want to show off the new tricks in their pony show." Paste (magazine) - "[CHAMP] opens promisingly with the lean, mean 'Favorite Food,' on which blown-out fuzz and shrilling organs snowball into an incandescent rock jitter..." Pitchfork (Website) - "[I]t does find TPC reaching out, growing more comfortable, and letting loose....The tempos are upticked slightly, the background vocals more freewheeling." Clash (Magazine) - "TPC keep their trademark sound snug against their chests -- the sound that is at once warm, tight and breathtakingly exhilarating -- following right through to 'End Of A Spark'..."
