This is the Beau Hunks' tribute to Raymond Scott. This Dutch ensemble has also recorded works by American composers Leroy Shield, Ferde GrofT, Edward MacDowell, and a few others. Scott's work from the late '30s fits closely with the expertise of this band, especially in this scaled down form. The music is a catchy animated jazz-pop hybrid that went on to be used extensively in cartoons produced by the Warner Brothers studio. These 18 pieces are faithfully rendered and recorded in crisp clarity. However, far from being merely a nostalgic exercise, this music swings and comes alive in whatever moment it's being played. The Beau Hunks recorded another set of his music, MANHATTAN MINUET, which is equally recommended (as are all the albums released by this vital outfit).|
