By the mid-'90s, just before the end of his life, composer Raymond Scott experienced something of renaissance. Millions of people were unknowingly familiar with his material via its use in Warner Brothers cartoons. A continent away, the Dutch Beau Hunks ensemble was researching, reviving, performing, and recording Leroy Shield's music from the LITTLE RASCALS and LAUREL & HARDY films.
Pared down to a sextet, the Beau Hunks were uniquely qualified to tackle Scott's friendly sounding but technically demanding music. The Beau Hunks remain faithful to Scott's scores, all dating from the '30s and '40s. But, as with classical music, the character of the players leaves its own unmistakable mark. Contemporary recording technology additionally allows for a greater sonic range. This set not only swings and roars but does so with the utmost clarity and definition.|
