Villagers are an Irish band, based around frontman Conor O'Brien. O'Brien's lyrics tend to discuss dark themes, and he likes to contrast strange, abstract ideas with everyday mundanity. 'Becoming A Jackal' was shortlisted for the 2010 Mercury Music Award, alongside artists such as Foals, Laura Marling and Wild Beasts. Villagers have also toured with many international acts, including Neil Young and Tracy Chapman, and were the first Irish act to be signed to Domino Records.|
