メキシコ出身の指揮者エドゥアルド・マータ(1942-1995)。1977年から1993年までダラス交響楽団の音楽監督に就任し、オーケストラの性能を高めたことで知られています。このBOXはオーケストラとの最後の3年間に演奏された様々な作品の録音集で、得意としていたショスタコーヴィチやレスピーギなどダイナミック路線だけでなく、ショーソンやイベールと言ったフランス音楽も含まれており、持ち味である「洗練された音楽」が繰り広げられています。

The Eduardo Mata Years｜CDアルバム
1995年に飛行機事故で亡くなったメキシコの指揮者マータ。同い年の爆演指揮者バティスと比較すると精緻で温かみのある演奏をした才能溢れる指揮者だった。師匠のチャベスの全交響曲やラテン系の作曲家の作品の演奏､録音を積極的に行い、普及に努めた功績は大きい。もっとメジャーな作品の録音をしてくれたらと思ったが、マータの一貫した姿勢は変わらなかった。マータの録音は廃盤が多く、こういう企画での復活は嬉しい!
