The tale of the sharpshooting woman Annie Oakley is one of Irving Berlin's great masterpieces for the stage. When it was created in 1946, Berlin had long since conquered Broadway and moved on to Hollywood, only to return to the stage in the early '40s. The star of the show was Ethel Merman, and the combination of composer and singer proved highly successful. Berlin created some of his most memorable tunes, and Merman brought them to life with her inimitable brass. Aside from hits such as "They Say It's Wonderful," "The Girl That I Marry," and "Anything You Can Do," the show featured one of the all-time great Broadway anthems, "There's No Business Like Show Business."
