After listening to the old time string band, Dixieland jazz, ragtime, and jug band sounds on QUEEN FAREENA you'd never suspect that Carmichael got his start in Internal Void and Pentagram, death metal bands based in Baltimore and Washington DC. As he's moved into a more sedate middle age, Carmichael started revisiting the sounds he discovered in his father's LP collection decades back. The result is an album full of mostly vintage songs (Carmichael contributes two originals) played in a loose-limbed style that sounds like an improvised studio free for all, in the best possible sense of the word.
