This collection of live action and canned videos has some of the same selections as 2002's 14-song 1978-1988 collection Greatest Shits, but it extends the time frame 11 years and uncovers more footage. Although 2007's Smash the State: The Raw Original D.O.A. 1978-81 is the don't-miss D.O.A. DVD, The Men of Action reminds that even if the original trio-turned-quartet's torrid pace could never be sustained, every subsequent lineup has been equally committed to the cause. The first D.O.A. remains absolutely flooring, as seen on three 1980 songs from San Francisco's On Broadway (we're talking North America's Clash here), and The Men does further service by digging up a 1985 San Francisco gig at the Stone with the next, nearly as scorching lineup, with its rhythm section derived from old friends the (Canadian) Subhumans.
