バッハ（1685-1750）の未完の大作である「フーガの技法」は西洋の作曲技法の基礎を全て詰め込んだものとして知られます。様々な様式・技法による14曲のフーガと4曲のカノンは演奏的にも困難を極め、これまでにも多くの演奏家によって形作られてきていますが、このセルジオ・ヴァルトーロによる新録音は、最近公表された1751/1752年出版譜のファクシミリ版を用いたもので、その詳細な研究結果も含め、「フーガの技法の歴史」に一石を投じるものになるかもしれません。ちなみに、未完のフーガは曲の途中に置かれているので（バトラーの復元版と同じ順序）聴いていても取り残された気分になることはありません。 ［コメント提供；ナクソス・ジャパン］
