Brooklyn-based experimental indie group Dirty Projectors is the brainchild of Dave Longstreth, who constantly uses different musicians to bring his ideas to life. 'Bitte Orca' is the follow-up to 2007's 'Rose Above' and the first the band have recorded since signing with Domino in April 2008. Amber Coffman and Angel Deradoorian provide sumptuous unpredictable and often falsetto vocal melodies on this vibrant, expressive record. Includes the infectious single 'Stillness Is The Move'.|

フォークでパンクでハードコア。土着でラーガでアヴァンギャルドな要素が同時進行し、複雑にねじれ、曲がり、不意に弾ける様子は、メイヨ・トンプソンがトーキングヘッズをプロデュースしたかのような不思議な夢を見させてくれる彼ら彼女たち。そのスタイルはそのままに、普遍的なまでのポップ・センスが爆発した5作目です。デイヴ・ロングストレスの感覚的な声とギターに呼応するインド歌謡のように柔和で、チャントやゴスペルのごとく厳かな女性コーラスの妙。これは愉快。このちぐはぐな快感に、一瞬にして日常の縁から滑り落ちます。

またしてもブルックリンから強烈な作品が登場した。このダーティ・プロジェクターズはイエール大学出身のデイヴ・ロングストレスのソロ・ユニットとしてスタートを切り、2007年作『Rise Above』からバンド編成に進化した6人組。その前作以上にバンド・サウンドがソリッドになった今作では、現代音楽や世界各地の民族音楽、リズム&ブルース、ジャズなどさまざまな要素を微分積分して緻密に構築した、マッド・サイエンティスト的なトラックが並んでいる。隅々まで音がネジレまくっていて、ワンフレーズ先の展開すらまったく読めない。さらにデイヴと女性コーラスの奇妙なハーモニーも後を引くおもしろさだ。デヴィッド・バーンやビョークが惚れ込んだのもよくわかる新世紀エキゾチカ・ロック。
