Busdriver comes at hip-hop from an unusual, almost detached position; he has proclaimed no love for the genre. On his 2009 effort, JHELLI BEANS, he opens with "conscious rap failed us" and adds "welcome to my rap jam" with such disdain one can practically hear the air quotes, yet his tongue-twisted raps reveal real reverence. However, his perceived distance and his neglected worship of hip-hop's sacred cows pay dividends in the obtuse twists the Cali MC puts on his raps, the oddball speeded-up and screwed-down narratives, bizarre couplets, and just plain gloriously weird juxtapositions (as on "Me-Time" where he wraps his rhymes around the third movement of Mozart's Sonata in A).

約2年半ぶりのニュー・アルバム。今回の聴きものは、何と言ってもモーツァルト〈トルコ行進曲〉を引用したオミッド製の“Me-Time”。バッハ〈管弦楽組曲第2番〉を使った伝説の“Imaginary Places”に比肩する怪作として、彼の新しい代表曲になりそうな気配が濃厚だ。ノーバディ、デイデラス、ノーキャンドゥーなど、プロデューサー／ゲスト陣は〈ロウ・エンド・セオリー〉クルーが中心。マイカ・ナインの客演もある。
