Scott Herren's sixth recording as Prefuse 73 continues to push the experimental producer's intriguing fusion of hip-hop, ambient, left-field samples, and off-kilter textures. EVERYTHING SHE TOUCHED TURNED AMPEXIAN steps up Herren's already rapid jump-cut aesthetic, overstuffing each track with sounds and ideas, and compressing each to a mere minute or two. With the entire album recorded on analog Ampex tape, EVERYTHING has a warm, organic feel that creates a terrific tension with its futuristic sound-collage approach. Herren isn't afraid to bathe listeners in lush, dubby atmospherics or to abrade with confrontational noise, yet his scattered compositions always feel perfectly calibrated and balanced, making EVERYTHING wonderfully absorbing front to back.
