Laura Groves, better known as Blue Roses, is a British multi-instrumentalist whose delight in experimentation is obvious on her self-titled debut album. Numerous comparisons to American harpist Joanna Newsom are justified, but Groves' work is more traditionally song-based, and sees her dabble in extreme vocal layering to give her folk-influenced songs a contemporary pop tilt. Bizarre instrumentation also includes the use of kalimbas and a rare Steinberg piano on some tracks, resulting in a distinct yet familiar pop sound.|
