Recording information: Nola Recording Studios, New York, NY. Pianist Hank Jones is the utimate jazz veteran who over a half-century has played with nearly everyone of note (including Charlie Parker). Big-toned saxophonist (also flutist) Frank Wess, a veteran himself, is a graduate of the so-called "New Testament" Count Basie Orchestra. Age has not dimmed the abilities of either, and for their second disc as co-leaders, they've upped the ante a bit--straight-ahead-style guitarist Ilya Lushtak returns but gets more space to shine, and vocalist Marion Cowings also appears on a few songs. Cowing's mellow, easygoing singing meshes well with the Hank & Frank company as they swing with ease down memory lane. No revelations here, just unsurprising, typical excellence.
