Melissa Livaudais and Busy Gangnes continue to veer toward euphoric, electronic dance-pop on their first full-length under the Telepathe moniker. Heavily inspired by New Wave of two decades past, DANCE MOTHER is also characterized by the effectively detached production of TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek. Songs like "Devil's Trident" dizzyingly overlap apathetic beat poetry and Suicide-like droning synths with warm countermelodies and climactically swirling vocal harmonies. "Lights Go Down" sounds like a latter-day Madonna club track if she were truly dwelling in outcast culture. All in all, MOTHER is a sublimely weird 21st-century dance record.
