Psych-folk acoustic guitar explorer Peter Walker, who turned heads with his 1966 debut album, RAINY DAY RAGA, may have taken a multi-decade break from recording after the '60s ended, but the tellingly titled LONG LOST TAPES 1970 unearths some intriguing evidence of what he was up to after he dipped below the radar. Backed by a mix of atmospheric, tinkling percussion and some surprisingly heavy, tribal-sounding drum patterns (among other things), Walker leaps headlong into the psychedelic fray here, unleashing some long, modal, raga-influenced tracks that are among the most Eastern-tinged items in his catalog. While these cuts may not eclipse his 1966 milestone, they certainly stand up proudly alongside that album, providing proof that he was not idle during the early part of his "wilderness years."
