The sweat-stained live document A POSITIVE RAGE is something of a vindication for the Hold Steady-- a celebration of the considerable critical and popular success of both 2006's BOYS AND GIRLS IN AMERICA and 2008's STAY POSITIVE, as well as a glimpse of the band's much-touted live show, which combines the go-for-broke energy of the Replacements with the fiercely concentrated eloquence of early Dylan. A POSITIVE RAGE captures the band performing at Chicago's Metro on Halloween night 2007, and though it's not a hometown show for this Minneapolis-based outfit, the crowd treats the group with the level of adoration reserved for a chosen few. The band clearly feeds off of that energy and delivers electrifying versions of well-worn favorites like "Hoodrats" and "Lord I'm Discouraged" as well as lesser-known cuts like "Ask Her For Adderall" and "Girls Like Status."
