Known mainly as the frontman of Primus, bassist, and kooky personality extraordinaire, Les Claypool has also helmed a number of inventive solo and collaborative projects. On OF FUNGI AND FOE, his fourth solo studio effort, Claypool continues to mix genres with heedless abandon, throwing together funk, metal, jazz, and all manner of experimental flourishes with a sense of wit and fun.
Much of the music on OF FUNGI AND FOE had its roots in various film projects for which the artist was commissioned, but regardless of its source, the music is unmistakably Claypool. "Ol' Rosco" and "Red State Girl" are satirical character sketches that also manage to be playful romps, and ferocious "Bite Out of Life," featuring the inimitable vocals of Gogol Bordello's Eugene Hutz, is one of the disc's highlights.
