Bassist, composer, and sound scientist Bill Laswell follows up his 1999 Tzadik release, INVISIBLE DESIGN, nearly a decade later with more compositions for solo bass. Augmenting his playing on fretless and eight-string basses with overdubs and studio trickery, Laswell again conjures washy, atmospheric soundscapes that draw equally on dub, ambient, and avant-garde traditions. Laswell makes the most of the range of tonality on his instrument, pitting resonant drones against high harmonic pitches, with a host of distorted and reverb-drenched textures fleshing out the sonic journey.
