While the title of this Aussie singer-songwriter's seventh album refers to the goddess of love, his vocal arrangements and inflection are at times deeply indebted to the king of 20th century folk, Bob Dylan--to be specific, the bluesy yearn of NEW MORNING. But the music itself is pure pop, owing to John Lennon ("Sing," "Song For The Divine Mother Of The Universe") and Queen ("Boy With A Barbie") as much as to contemporary reference points like Grandaddy ("Wake Up To America"). REBIRTH is a tribute to Lee's musical loves, and achieves its success reincarnating classic FM radio with lush, warm touches.
