From local youth ministry to national talent search winners, Julian Drive had a long yet rewarding journey to the spotlight. Their Inpop Records debut boasts Southern alt-rock that blends the best ingredients of Daughtry, MercyMe, 3 Doors Down, and other masters of authentic rock driven by the play between creative guitar work and lead vocals. Veterans of the church circuit near their hometown of Athens, GA, the members of Julian Drive were suddenly thrust into the national spotlight after winning the 2004 Exalting Him National Talent Search atop 2,000 contestants. My Coming Day is the result of years of rigorous D.I.Y. touring following that contest with popular CCM acts such as David Crowder Band, Day of Fire, Disciple, Israel Houghton, Building 429, and others. Right out of the gate, the quartet captivates with the melodic crowd-pleasers "From Your Hands" and "Always There," both of which are powered by the harmonies of Rush of Fools and punctuated by Southern rock riffs. Their creative artistry resounds strongest on their alt-post-grunge cover of Hoobastank's "The Reason," casting the anthem's lyrics in a new worshipful spotlight. My Coming Day is solid throughout and indicates a new yet familiar direction for contemporary Christian rock. ~ Jared Johnson
