Based on the story of Leonard Chess, the co-founder of the legendary Chess Records label, CADILLAC RECORDS is a film that chronicles the rise of one of America's great recording institutions. Throughout the 1950s and '60s, Chess was the premiere label for blues and R&B, putting out music by such iconic talents as Howlin'Wolf, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, and Bo Diddley. The soundtrack features contemporary R&B and hip-hop stars Beyonce, Mos Def, Jeffrey Wright, Raphael Saadiq, and others (who also appear as actors in the film), covering well known tunes including "I'm a Man" and "No Particular Place to Go," made famous by the original Chess artists.

1949年、レナードとフィルのチェス兄弟により設立されたチェス・レコード(Chess Records)は、 マディ・ウォーターズ、ハウリン・ウルフ、ボ・ディドリー、チャック・ベリー、エタ・ジェイムズ、リトル・ウォルター、バディ・ガイなどの主要な作品を多く送り出し、1950～60年代のアメリカ黒人音楽史に大きな影響を与えた。その重要レーベルの栄枯盛衰を描いた映画『キャデラック・レコーズ』のサウンドトラックが本作。映画キャストには、ビヨンセ（エタ・ジェイムズ役）、映画『バスキア』主演で注目されたジェフリー・ライト（マディ・ウォーターズ役）、モス・デフ（チャック・ベリー役）、アカデミー受賞俳優エイドリアン・ブロディ（レナード・チェス役）らが名を連ね、サントラには、ビヨンセ、ラファエル・サディーク、モス・デフ、リトル・ウォルター、ソランジュ他、キャストが歌うブルース・カヴァー曲満載！
