Max Ochs, the cousin of the far better known folk singer-songwriter Phil Ochs, was part of the same experimental guitar scene of the 1960s that birthed John Fahey, Peter Walker, and Robbie Basho. Unlike his contemporaries, Ochs did not record much in the 1960s, and remained a highly obscure figure until the release of HOORAY FOR ANOTHER DAY on the alt-folk revivalist label Tompkins Square Records. The album combines instrumental guitar pieces including a version of Fahey's "In Christ There Is No East or West" and a handful of spoken-word poems, including a heartfelt tribute to his cousin entitled "Phil."
