The members of Brooklyn's Crystal Stilts are steeped in all manner of subcultural lore, taking bits and pieces from surf-noise pioneers like Jesus And Mary Chain, original art-punks the Velvet Underground, psychobilly forebears the Gun Club, and the original New Wave days of Rough Trade and Factory Records. Brad Hargett's vocals will inevitably draw comparisons with Ian Curtis, but ALIGHT OF NIGHT is no Joy Division emulator. With distantly ringing guitars, chiming percussion, and the occasional addition of organ and harmonica lending depth to their raw foundation, Crystal Stilts have created a potent atmosphere out of stark minimalism.

商品の紹介

Spin (p.102) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "The eerie centerpiece is singer Brad Hargett's off-key mumble, which glides through buoyant anthems and tranquil musings." The Wire (p.70) - "Crystal Stilts have created one of the most perfectly formed reconciliations of classic rock swagger and zoned dreampop." CMJ - "Taffy sweet and stretchy keyboards wind through gothic vaults, but usually not for long as the band rushes back out and into the garage again." Mojo (Publisher) (p.108) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The echoey sound is as atmospheric as Meek's Cryin' Shames' single 'Please Stay'....ALIGHT OF NIGHT is devoid of current context, making for a weird timelessness. A treat." Clash (Magazine) (p.84) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Aesthetically, Crystal Stilts seem to exist somewhere between the reverberating vapors of the Jesus & Mary Chain and the brash lo-fi rockabilly punks Black Lips." Clash (Magazine) (p.103) - "Shrouded in reverb, this deranged garage tribute by Crystal Stilts has the same aesthetic as the Jesus Mary Chain: take some innocent pop songs and cram them full of distortion."
