The Menahan Street Band (named for the Brooklyn street where they recorded) is something of a New York funk/soul-scene supergroup, featuring members of Sharon Jones's Dap-Kings, Antibalas, and the Budos Band. The breezy-but-groovy sound on their debut album mixes the kind of soul-jazz, R&B, and Afro-funk influences you'd expect, considering the members' histories, but the evocative feel of their instrumental compositions gives the MSB an identity all their own.
