The cheeky album art of female legs kicked high in the air makes it clear Catfish Haven wants to boogie on their second full-length. The trio's garage-soul, led by George Hunter's remarkably authentic R&B rasp, has continually evolved into a meatier mixture. On DEVASTATOR, things get even looser and funkier, tossing in more horns, backup gospel vocals, Wild West pianos, and staccato funk riffs. All these elements converge on album highlight "Set In Stone," but there's a hefty helping of good times and earnest emotion spread throughout. And for good measure, there's an almost metallic instrumental intermission, the sublimely unexpected "Halftime Show."
