Before the 2003 collaboration, L'AVVENTURA, Dean Wareham & Britta Phillips had previously worked together as singer/driving force and bassist, respectfully, for dream rock band Luna. Years later, the pair would join in marriage. The striking Phillips appeared in movies in the 1980s. A longstanding partnership, a likely burbling romance, and motion picture savvy only begins to explain the surreal and gorgeous set of songs that is L'AVVENTURA. While echoes of Luna inevitably ensue (particularly in Wareham's trademark staccato lyrics), the unearthly tunes tend toward the more orchestral and cinematic, with wisps of French pop, and they range from the stirring "Night Nurse" to the cowboy balladry of "Knives of Bavaria".|
