While the three players of THE SYNTH SHOW are definitely jazz players, they're not averse to acknowledging their non-jazz inspirations. In the 1970s, before synthesizers and electronics became omnipresent, groups in assorted genres--Herbie Hancock Sextet, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Yes, Tangerine Dream--utilized them in then-new and exciting ways. The trio of O'Leary (guitar), Wollesen (drums), and Saft (keys and synthesizers) pay tribute to this era, working these assorted influences into a jazz improvisational context. But SHOW isn't swinging theme-solos-theme--it's dense, spacey, funky, and dreamlike.|
