These are the songs she heard from her music-loving parents in her Kentucky childhood, and the songs she sang with her brother in a youthful duo. It also doesn't hurt that she has an unerring ear for picking the right material. So when she rips into such evergreens as George Jones' upbeat, rockabilly-tinged "Why Baby Why," or Carl & Pearl Butler's temptation-of-perfidy tune "Don't Let Me Cross Over," she comes at them with a heart full of country soul, a real sense of history, and a passion for recreating the kind of emotional impact those songs had on her own life.
