Falling somewhere between idiosyncratically poppy New Wave and post-riot grrrrl indie rock, Dressy Bessy is fun and danceable with a bit of a razor's edge. That's particularly evident on the mechanically tuned guitars of songs like "Simple Girlz", which are propelled by Tammy Ealom's vocals, reminiscent of Toni Basil with a bit less blinding cheerleader enthusiasm. HOLLER is an album that never fully concedes to its catchy pop origins, but still hangs on to a certain adolescent energy. At the end of the day, however, it's hard not to take Ealom and Co.'s advice, and put on STOMP ("In Your Headphone") and start clapping along.|
