ブライアン・ウィルソン、古巣のキャピトル・レコード＝EMIへ復帰！　天才ブライアンが語りをまじえながら過去を振り返る自伝的な旅物語！1962年、ブライアンがビーチ・ボーイズとして初めてレコーディングを行ったハリウッドのキャピトル・スタジオにて録音制作。2007年夏、1949年の名曲「ラッキー・オールド・サン」を口ずさんでいたブライアン・ウィルソンは、この時今回のアルバムを生むきっかけとなるユニークなアプローチを思いついたという。さっそくこの曲のルイ・アームストロングのヴァージョンを買った彼は、バンド・メンバーであるスコット・ベネットと一緒に詞を作り、旧友ヴァン・ダイク・パークスの手を借りて、活気に満ちた語り形式の物語を創作することを思いついたという。

  • 涙、涙である。ブライアンがかつて栄光と挫折を味わった古巣のキャピトルに復帰したうえ、こんなにも明るくて開放的な新作を届けてくれたのだから。故郷カリフォルニアの古き良き日に思いを馳せ、自叙伝的な内容となった本作において、彼の眼差しはどこまでも活力に満ちている。まるで過去の壮絶な浮き沈みを受け入れ、心から音作りを楽しんでいるかのように。亡き弟デニスに捧げたラスト曲をはじめとする瑞々しいメロディーも、過去のソロ作には見られなかったビーチ・ボーイズ風のコーラスも、要所に登場する本人の語りも、ヴァン・ダイク・パークスら旧友の愛に満ちたバックアップも、すべてが感動的。『Smile』の完成を経て、遅れてきた青春をいままさに謳歌しているかのようなソロ最高傑作だ。
