he debut eponymous album from Hertford electro-shoegaze three-piece Friendly Fires joins acts such as M83 and Asobi Seksu in taking established genres and making them palatable for the nu-rave generation. Taking Prince and the Kompakt label as prominent influences, this release shows the band to be a diverse bunch, while the production talents of Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Babyshambles, Maximo Park) keep things slick for the first single, 'Jump In The Pool'. Elsewhere, the band themselves are producers, giving 'Friendly Fires' a distinctly personalised sound and brimming confidence in execution.|

今夏の〈サマソニ〉に参戦したロンドンの3人組が、とてつもなくハッピーな初作を完成!　80'sダンス・ポップからの影響が色濃いそのサウンドが注目を浴びるようになったのは、フランキー・ナックルズのカヴァーとなるシングル“Your Love”を発表した2006年以降のこと（日本盤のみボートラに収録）。〈ポスト・クラクソンズ〉として括られる彼らだが、多くのバンドが4つ打ちビートにシンセ音を乗せただけというお粗末な音を鳴らしているなかで、豊富なリズム・パターンの上に歪んだギター・ノイズを乗せていく唯一無二の手法を発案。しかもすべての曲が短尺なため、親しみやすいポップ・ミュージックとしても機能させているのだから凄まじい。〈破格の新人〉と呼ばれるアクトは、これくらい個性的じゃなくちゃ!
