This disc contains both ADD and DDD recordings. The music on this disc was selected and sequenced by Joanna Laufer and Kenneth S. Lewis - authors of INSPIRED: THE BREATH OF GOD. Personnel: James Galway (flute); Michala Petri (recorder); Malcolm Messiter (oboe); Placido Domingo (tenor saxophone); Andre Previn (piano); Keith Jarrett (harpsichord). Director: Robert Salter. Everyone is familiar with the way music can lift a sour mood, but the creators of this album believe it has a religiously spiritual effect as well. Joanna Laufer and Kenneth S. Lewis, co-authors of INSPIRED: THE BREATH OF GOD, have compiled this CD with the goal of raising the consciousness of listeners. Most of the included pieces, such as Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" and Schubert's "Ave Maria," will be familiar to music fans. Laufer and Lewis, however, make some interesting choices along the way. Of particular interest is J.S. Bach's Allegro moderato from the Sonata for Flute and Harpsichord in E Flat. Keith Jarrett's performance, even on harpsichord, provides the piece with a very contemporary sound. THE INSPIRED EFFECT will no doubt inspire many listeners with its combination of religious and secular music. Regardless of their origin, all the pieces are uplifting and well performed.
