British garage-blues purist Billy Childish met his match when he started recording with soulful siren Holly Golightly. Though they worked together on other projects, 1999's IN BLOOD represents their first outing as a duo. The subtitle promises "One Chord! One Song! One Sound!" and, while that's obviously an overstatement, it's not far off. Minimalist, rattletrap compositions like "Demolition Girl" and "You Move Me" could have been recorded on a steamy back porch on the edge of a swamp, but Golightly's sweet vocals leaven the earthiness of the otherwise primitive stomps, and provide the perfect counterpoint to Childish's briny hillbilly yowl.
