リアルタイムで「ストレンジャー」が起用されたソニー製品のCMを観てみたかったです。
イントロ、アウトロに漂う哀愁の旋律…痺れます。

とにかく「素顔のままで」に尽きる。
全米トップ40のラジオで初めて耳にした時から、この曲の持つ哀しいくらいの美しさに心奪われてしまった。水面に広がる波紋を想わせる優しいイントロで始まり、遠くから静かに近づいてくる歌声が包み込む。胸を打つメロディとそれに重ねられた想いの込められた歌詞、大空を優雅に飛翔するサキソフォーン…、全てが完璧だ。後日、この曲が10ccの「I’m Not In Love」にインスパイアされていたと聞いたが、言われてみれば納得できるエピソードだと想う。
アルバムそのものも完璧だし、もしも発売日がもう数カ月後になっていたら、78年度のグラミーのアルバム賞を映画のサントラに渡すことはなかったかもしれない。もちろん、歴史的名盤である『彩 -Aja-』との（賞レース上の）優劣は別としての話だけれど。
